Introduction

In an effort to improve agricultural output, one of the strategies that can be applied is agricultural intensification. One form of intensification is to utilize appropriate processing resources. Research conducted by Ahmad Rizhan Fadly, was guided by Saipul Bahri Daulay and Nazif Ichwan, aimed at assessing the efficiency of production costs and field capacity in the time of land treatment on paddy fields in North Pelawi Village, Babalan District, Langkat. The study aimed to provide a clear picture of the cost and time efficiency in the processing of paddy fields, and to identify the most efficient method of land management.

Methodology

The study was conducted in North Pelawi Village, Babalan District, Langkat, and involved the measurement of several parameters, including effective field capacity, tractor efficiency, fuel consumption, and economic analysis and processing costs. The measurement results show that the effective field capacity when processing uses human power in the morning is 0.056 ha/hour, while in the afternoon it reaches 0.081 ha/hour. Meanwhile, for processing using engine power, effective field capacity in the morning was recorded at 0.787 ha/hour, and in the afternoon it increased to 1,148 ha/hour.

Results

The results of the study show that the use of engine power shows higher efficiency in terms of field capacity, compared to human labor. This illustrates that mechanization in agriculture can be a solution to increase agricultural productivity, especially in a limited time. Higher efficiency in afternoon processing, both for human power and machinery, shows that processing time can affect the results obtained. Awareness of the importance of selecting the right time for land management can be an important consideration for farmers in increasing crop yields.

Discussion

The difference in processing costs between human power and machinery also shows that mechanization, even though it has a higher initial cost, can provide long-term efficiency both in time and labor. This is certainly important to consider by stakeholders in the agricultural sector, especially in developing policies and programs for sustainable agricultural development. With a better understanding of the efficiency of costs and agricultural resources, it is hoped that farmers and land managers can be wiser in making decisions related to the processing methods used, in order to increase agricultural outcomes on a sustainable manner.
