**Knowledge, Attitudes, and Actions of Application 5M as Prevention of Covid-19 to Fish Canning Workers at PT Suri Tani Pematang Siantar Pematan in 2021**

Introduction

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19), caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) virus, has become a major global health challenge. The rapid transmission of this virus, especially through droplets when someone coughs, sneezes, or talks, has put a significant strain on public health systems worldwide, including Indonesia. In this context, the application of a 5M health protocol, which includes wearing a mask, washing hands, keeping distance, avoiding crowds, and reducing mobility, has become crucial in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Background

The 5M health protocol has been widely adopted as a preventive measure against COVID-19. However, the effectiveness of this protocol depends on the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of individuals in implementing it. In the context of the fish canning industry, where workers are often in close proximity to each other, the application of the 5M protocol is particularly important. This study aims to analyze the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of workers in implementing the 5M health protocol as a COVID-19 preventive measure at PT Suri Tani Pematang Siantar Pematang in 2021.

Methodology

This study uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, involving 612 workers as the population. A sample of 51 people was selected using the Taro Yamane formula and the simple random sampling method. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires and direct observation. Data analysis was performed using univariate analysis, with the results presented in the form of frequency distribution tables.

Results

The results of this study showed that:

47 out of 51 respondents (92.2%) had good knowledge about the application of the 5M health protocol.
49 respondents (96.1%) showed a positive attitude towards the application of the protocol.
However, only 28 respondents (54.9%) showed adequate actions in obeying the 5M health protocol.

Discussion

The results of this study highlight the gap between knowledge and good attitudes with actions that still need to be improved. Although workers have adequate knowledge and positive attitudes towards the health protocol, their actions in complying with the protocol still need to be improved. This suggests that companies need to continue providing training and socialization about the importance of the application of 5M protocols, as well as creating a work environment that supports the application of healthy habits.

Conclusion

By understanding and applying the 5M health protocol consistently, workers not only protect themselves, but also protect colleagues and the community around them from the risk of viral transmission. This effort will be a strategic step in minimizing the impact of the Covid-19 at work, especially in the fish canning sector which is a vital industry. Through awareness and high compliance with health protocols, it is hoped that we can jointly face this pandemic and maintain public health.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

Companies should continue to provide training and socialization about the importance of the application of 5M protocols.
Companies should create a work environment that supports the application of healthy habits.
Workers should be encouraged to consistently apply the 5M health protocol in their daily work activities.
The government and relevant authorities should provide support and resources to companies in implementing the 5M health protocol.

Limitations

This study has several limitations, including:

The sample size was relatively small, which may limit the generalizability of the findings.
The study was conducted in a single company, which may not be representative of the entire fish canning industry.
The study only focused on the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of workers in implementing the 5M health protocol, and did not explore other factors that may influence the effectiveness of the protocol.
