The Influence of Farmer Youth on the Development of Sapta Business Farmers and its Relation to Regional Development in Simalungun Regency

Introduction

Simalungun Regency, located in Nagori Janggir Leto, Pane District, is home to a significant number of farmer youth who play a crucial role in the development of seven types of farm businesses. This study aims to evaluate and assess the influence of farm youth on the growth of farm businesses and its relation to the development of the local area. With a focus on the role of farmer youth in regional development, this research aims to provide insights into the impact of their involvement in farm businesses on the local economy and society.

Background

The development of farm businesses in Simalungun Regency has been a significant focus area for regional development. The involvement of farmer youth in these businesses has been recognized as a key factor in their success. However, the extent to which farmer youth contribute to the growth of farm businesses and their impact on regional development remains unclear. This study aims to fill this knowledge gap by examining the influence of farmer youth on the development of seven farm businesses and its relation to regional development in Simalungun Regency.

Methodology

This study employed a quantitative and descriptive research method, with a survey conducted on 290 farmer youths aged between 16 to 30 years. The sample taken consisted of thirty people who met the requirements. Data was collected through questionnaires and documentation studies, and analyzed using SPSS version 20.0.

Results

The results of this study showed that the role of farmer youth (X) had a positive and significant influence on the development of seven farm businesses (Y) in Nagori Janggir Leto, as well as its impact on regional development (Z) in the village. In addition, the development of seven farm businesses also has a positive influence on the region (Z) and is closely related to regional development.

Analysis of the Effect of Youth Farmers

Farmers who are involved in the development of farm businesses not only bring new innovations and knowledge, but also can increase agricultural productivity in the area. They are often more open to modern technology and sustainable agricultural practices, which support the increase in farming. With training and assistance, youth farmers can apply new techniques that are more efficient, which in turn increases the income and welfare of the farming community.

In the context of regional development, the strengthening of farming carried out by youth has a positive social and economic impact. Developing farm businesses will create new jobs, which help reduce unemployment in the village. In addition, with increasing income from the agricultural sector, people's purchasing power has also increased, which contributes to local economic growth.

The Importance of Support for Youth Peasants

Support from the government, non-governmental institutions, and the community is very important to ensure the success of young farmers. Training programs, access to capital, as well as the provision of agricultural facilities and infrastructure need to be improved. Thus, farmers not only act as business actors, but also as agents of change in regional development.

In conclusion, farmers have a significant influence on the development of farming and directly contribute to the progress of the region in Simalungun Regency. Therefore, efforts to strengthen the capacity and role of farmer youth must be a priority in agricultural and regional development policies.
