Results

The tensile strength of the bioplastic was found to be highest at a particle size of 140 mesh and a concentration of hydrochloric acid of 0.9%. The extension when breaking up was found to be highest at a particle size of 140 mesh and a concentration of hydrochloric acid of 1.3%. The water absorption of the bioplastic was found to be highest at a particle size of 200 mesh and a concentration of hydrochloric acid of 1.0%.
Discussion
The results of this study suggest that the size of the durian seed starch particles and the concentration of hydrochloric acid have a significant effect on the bioplastic characteristics of chitosan with sorbitol plastic. The smaller starch particle size (140 mesh) shows the results of better tensile strength, which is due to the increased surface area of the starch particles, thereby increasing interactions between starch and chitosan molecules in bioplastic matrices. The optimal hydrochloric acid concentration (0.9% for tensile strength and 1.3% for extension when breaking up) shows a balance between chitosan dissolution and bioplastic matrix formation.
