Introduction

Cervical cancer is one of the deadliest diseases for women around the world, where Human Papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 and 18 is the main cause. This disease has a high risk of attacking adolescent girls, so it is essential for them to get good information and understanding of prevention, including through HPV vaccination. The availability of the HPV vaccine in Indonesia plays a major role in reducing the incidence of cervical cancer. Therefore, it is crucial to evaluate the effect of health education delivered through audiovisual media on knowledge of HPV vaccination among students of SMP Kemala Bhayangkari 1 Medan.

Cervical cancer is a significant health concern worldwide, with HPV type 16 and 18 being the primary causes. Adolescent girls are at a higher risk of contracting this disease, making it essential for them to have a good understanding of prevention methods, including HPV vaccination. The HPV vaccine is available in Indonesia and has been proven to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer. However, the effectiveness of health education in increasing knowledge about HPV vaccination among adolescents is still a topic of discussion.

Methodology

This study employed a pseudo-experimental design with a group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 56 students aged 9 to 14 years from SMP Kemala Bhayangkari 1 Medan, selected using non-probability sampling techniques. The measuring instrument used in this study was a questionnaire on HPV vaccination knowledge and audiovisual education material that included information about cervical cancer, early detection, and prevention of cervical cancer through the HPV vaccine. Health education interventions were carried out using audiovisuals for 7 days.

Results

The data obtained was then analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test test with a value of P = 0.000 (p <0.05), showing a significant difference in students' knowledge before and after audiovisual health education. The results show that students at SMP Kemala Bhayangkari 1 Medan have better knowledge about HPV vaccination after receiving audiovisual-based health education.

Health education through audiovisual media has proven to be very effective in increasing students' understanding. This approach not only provides clearer information but also attracts attention and makes it easier for students to understand the material presented.
